Iran Closes Western Airspace as It Restructures Flight Operations

Iran’s Civil Aviation Authority said Saturday it had closed the airspace in the western region and restricted flight movements, as authorities moved to reorganize air traffic and gradually return airport operations to normal. The decision affects aviation activity in a sensitive part of the country and comes amid stepped-up operational management of the airspace. The authority denied reports that any navigation warning had been issued regarding the closure of the western airspace. It said no such alert was released by officials. Mehrabad and Imam Khomeini airports had their operating hours extended until 21:30. The authority said the measures were taken to reorder air traffic and allow airport operations to return to normal in stages.
