Houthis warn Saudi attack on Hodeida, Kamaran will not go unanswered

SANAA, Yemen — Yemen's Houthi movement, formally known as Ansarullah, said Saudi-led strikes on civilian facilities in Hodeida and on Kamaran Island, including Hodeida port, amounted to a serious escalation and would not go unanswered. In a statement released on Wednesday, the group's Political Bureau said the attacks on civilian sites represented a continuation of "collective punishment and siege policies" and accused Saudi forces of trying to offset military and political failures by targeting Yemeni civilian livelihoods. The Houthis described the strikes on civilian targets as a clear violation of international law, adding that the international community now faces a moral and legal responsibility to respond. The statement said Yemen's deterrent posture, built on its people, leadership and armed forces, had become more pronounced. The strikes on Hodeida were carried out by the Saudi-led coalition that supports Yemen's internationally recognized government as part of operations against Houthi military targets. Coalition spokesman Brigadier General Turki al-Maliki said the coalition had hit Houthi military targets that threaten shipping in the Red Sea. No further details on casualties or damage were immediately available.
