TEL AVIV, Israel — Israeli Channel 12 reported that Israel is maintaining a high level of preparedness for a possible confrontation with Iran and is waiting for a decision from U.S. President Donald Trump on the matter. The channel said Italian and Austrian airlines have begun canceling flights to and from Israel, a sign of what may lie ahead. The Wall Street Journal, citing U.S. officials, reported that Iran has been using Khyber Shakhr drones in its strikes on U.S. bases in the region since fighting resumed this month. The officials said Tehran has employed a mixed approach of different flight paths, maneuvers and speeds to try to confuse U.S. defense systems. Israeli media reported that the number of air-to-air refueling aircraft in the country has reached 80, most of them deployed at Ben Gurion Airport. The reports said hundreds of warplanes, two U.S. aircraft carriers, dozens of naval assets and submarines are positioned in the region, reflecting an elevated military posture. The movements come as Trump has said he is seriously considering resuming broad military operations against Iran and is moving closer to authorizing a larger strike than any carried out so far.
