BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” The Sadiqun bloc in Iraq's parliament has warned Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani that time is running out to send a long-pending draft law on the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) to the legislature, calling the current window a "last chance" for action. The bloc said it had already submitted a formal letter to the Prime Minister's office requesting the draft be transmitted to parliament and the legislative process completed, and that any further delay beyond the stated deadline would be unacceptable. Lawmakers argued that enshrining the law is a national and constitutional obligation needed to protect the rights of PMF members, as well as those killed and wounded in service. Sadiqun, made up of Sairun (Reform) Alliance MPs, said it will move to exercise its legislative and oversight powers if the deadline passes without action, including a series of oversight steps to compel the draft's transmission to parliament. The bloc added that it rejects any postponement that would affect PMF members' rights or delay a fair resolution.
