Grave Found at Omdurman’s El Hilal Stadium During Cleanup

A grave was discovered during cleanup work at El Hilal Stadium in Omdurman, known locally as the “Blue Jewel,” as volunteers removed war debris from the site. The find has prompted legal, medical and security authorities to be notified, with formal examinations expected to begin. The grave is believed to belong to a person who died in the war that began in April 2023. The discovery underscores the disruption caused by the conflict and the makeshift burials that were carried out when some residents could not reach cemeteries. In the early months of the war, some residents were forced to bury their dead in public spaces and open grounds because access to burial sites was blocked. Officials now plan to determine the identity of the remains and rebury the body in an appropriate cemetery once identification is completed.
