PARIS, France — French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and ensuring maritime traffic there remain among France’s top priorities. He said an agreement is needed to end tensions between Iran and the United States.
Barrot stressed that the strait lies in international waters and said passage should continue without any payment or pressure. He called on Iran and the United States to do everything they can to reduce tensions and end the war.
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on Saturday that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open for free use and available to everyone.
