ERBIL, Iraq โ Authorities in Erbil held an official ceremony yesterday evening to rename a major street in honor of the late Kurdish politician and writer Habil Mohammed Karim. The event was attended by local officials, including Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw and Minister of Municipalities and Tourism Sasan Awni.
Representatives of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), including Fadhil Mirani and Sidad Barzani, who attended on behalf of Masoud Barzani, were also present alongside the late politician's son, Aras Habil Mohammed Karim. The Erbil Governorate stated that the renaming serves to commemorate the historical injustices and exiles faced by the Kurdish Faili community.
Born in 1931, Habil Mohammed Karim served as a long-time secretary within the Kurdistan Democratic Party. He died in Beirut, Lebanon, in 2013.
