DHI QAR, Iraq โ Health authorities in Dhi Qar province have recorded 76 cases of hemorrhagic fever and six deaths since the beginning of 2026, according to a source at the provincial Health Directorate. The source said two new cases were detected in the past 48 hours, bringing the total confirmed since January to 76, with six people dying from complications.
Most patients have recovered after receiving treatment from specialized medical teams, the source added. Dhi Qar has recorded the highest case count of any Iraqi province so far this year.
A joint commission comprising the provincial Health Directorate and the Veterinary Hospital is working to contain the outbreak, with measures including large-scale disinfection of livestock barns and animals to prevent further transmission. No further details on the response were immediately available.
