Iraq weather: temperatures to ease in north and center, hold steady in south

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Iraq's Meteorological Directorate said temperatures will drop by a few degrees in the northern and central regions on Friday, while remaining near recent levels in the south. Friday's forecast highs were listed as 36°C in Dohuk, 37°C in Sulaymaniyah, 38°C in Erbil, 39°C in Mosul and Kirkuk, 40°C in Anbar, 41°C in Saladin, 42°C in Baghdad, Diyala and Karbala, 43°C in Babil and Najaf, 44°C in Wasit, Diwaniyah and Maysan, and 46°C in Dhi Qar and Basra. The agency said winds from the northwest will be light to moderate, reaching 30 kilometers per hour in eastern parts of the south during daytime hours. On Saturday, temperatures are expected to hold at similar levels in the center and north, with a slight decrease in the south. On Sunday, central and northern temperatures are forecast to remain unchanged, while the south is expected to rise by a few degrees.
