BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq national team player Amir Amiri said the squad's qualification for the 2026 World Cup after a 40-year absence is a source of great happiness for all Iraqis. In remarks to FIFA Today, Amiri said the qualifying campaign was long and difficult, but the players' determination and the support of Iraqi fans helped the team overcome every obstacle.
Amiri said the national team has developed a stronger and more united identity during the qualifying process, and that the side will compete at the World Cup with a warrior mentality and high confidence. He added that facing some of the world's leading players provides extra motivation for the squad.
The midfielder said Iraq will take the tournament one match at a time and pursue results regardless of the opponent's reputation. "Football speaks on the pitch," Amiri said, adding that the players will give their full effort in every minute to raise Iraq's name.
