Belarusian carrier Belavia has barred a passenger from its flights for life after the individual attempted to use an e-cigarette on board, the airline said. Smoke detection systems and cabin crew intervened when the device was activated during the flight.
Authorities released the passenger after landing and imposed a 2,000-dollar fine. Belavia said the traveler has also been added to the blacklist of other domestic airlines operating in Belarus. Aviation rules prohibit the use of traditional cigarettes, e-cigarettes and vaping devices during flights.
Aviation experts note that e-cigarette use can trigger onboard smoke alarms, disrupt safety procedures and expose passengers to penalties including fines or bans from flying. Airlines worldwide have tightened enforcement of in-flight smoking and vaping rules, with permanent travel bans applied in cases of repeated or safety-endangering violations.
