Basra tops global 24-hour temperature rankings as Iraq records five hottest spots

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Five Iraqi cities appeared in the world’s 15 hottest locations over the past 24 hours, according to global meteorological data, with Basra International Airport topping the list at 50.7 degrees Celsius. Iraqi cities took three additional places in the global ranking: Basra-Hussein was third at 49.9 degrees, Nasiriya sixth at 49.1 degrees, Diwaniya ninth at 48.7 degrees and Samawa tenth at 48.6 degrees. Iran placed three locations in the global top 15. Omidiyeh ranked second at 50.5 degrees, Abadan fourth at 49.4 degrees and Ahvaz seventh at 48.8 degrees. Kuwait International Airport was fifth at 49.2 degrees, while Saudi Arabia’s Hasa city recorded 48.7 degrees in eighth place. Saudi Arabia’s Qaisumah, Qatar’s Abu Samra and other Kuwaiti sites also appeared in the ranking.
