Basra police arrest terrorism suspect wanted under anti-terror law

BASRA, Iraq — Police in Basra have arrested a man wanted under Article 4 of Iraq's anti-terrorism law, the provincial directorate of intelligence and counterterrorism said. A security source said the suspect was detained after his location was identified during an intelligence-led operation. According to the source, the suspect faced outstanding arrest warrants linked to murder, blackmail and the seizure of citizens' land. Investigators said he was also accused of opening fire on a resident's home in the Manawi Pasha district of central Basra. A police official said the man was wanted in multiple cases under Article 4 of the counterterrorism law. Further details were not immediately available.
