BASRA, Iraq โ€” Basra Governor Asaad al-Eydani has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with U.S.-based engineering and technology firm KBR aimed at upgrading the province's energy infrastructure and expanding investment opportunities, the governor's office said Tuesday. Under the agreement, announced on June 30, KBR will provide technical consulting and engineering services for energy projects in Basra and explore potential investment partnerships. Both sides agreed to establish a working mechanism to assess the sector's technical needs and discuss long-term collaboration options. The governor's office said KBR is already in contact with local partners to begin operations in Basra and that specific projects are expected to take shape in the coming period. Al-Eydani told the visiting KBR delegation that the province's oil and gas potential could attract international companies, contributing to employment and technology transfer. KBR representatives said they were interested in Basra's energy projects and would continue preparations for cooperation. No further details on project timelines or financial commitments were immediately available.
