Woman found dead in southern Baghdad; Basra court sentences drug dealer to life

BAGHDAD, Iraq โ A 32-year-old woman was found dead at her home in the Bueyse area of Dawra district, south of Baghdad, after hanging herself from the ceiling, security sources said. They reported that her death was the third suicide recorded in the area within 24 hours. Security forces went to the scene, secured the area and opened an investigation.
Separately, the Basra Criminal Court sentenced a drug dealer to life imprisonment on charges of narcotics trafficking. According to a court statement, 1.5 kilograms of crystal meth and hashish were seized from the defendant, who was accused of planning to sell the substances to addicts.
The ruling was issued under Article 27, paragraph 1 of Law No. 50 of 2017 on Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances. No further details were immediately available on the status of the investigation or any subsequent legal proceedings.
