Baghdad police arrest 37 people in Abu Hanifa security operation

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Police in Baghdad detained 37 people during a wide-ranging security operation in the Abu Hanifa area, a security source said. The operation was carried out under the direct supervision of the police commander by Baghdad's Rusafa police directorate and supporting units as part of a broader security exercise covering the Abu Hanifa jurisdiction. Of those detained, 31 people of various nationalities were arrested for violating official residency requirements, the source said. Six other suspects wanted by judicial authorities under various legal provisions were also taken into custody during the same operation. All 37 detainees have been referred to the relevant authorities for the completion of legal proceedings, according to the source.
