LONDON โ€” Eighty British lawmakers from nine parties signed a petition calling for comprehensive sanctions on Israel, Labour MP Richard Burgon announced. The petition urges the UK government to ban arms shipments to Israel, impose economic sanctions, and block trade in goods from Israeli settlements in the West Bank. The move comes as MPs in the House of Commons held debates on the Sanctions for Peace Bill introduced by the Labour Party, which would target extremist settlers and halt trade with Israeli settlements. The petition was signed by members of both the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Former UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy has previously stated that settlements are illegitimate under international law and undermine peace, warning that settlement expansion is pushing the two-state solution toward collapse. The initiative coincides with a period of growing settlement activity and intensifying international pressure over Israeli policy in the occupied territories.
