One person was killed and six others were wounded in a shooting at an unauthorized party in Morgan Hill, California, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said. Deputies responding to a report shortly before 10:16 p.m. found a chaotic scene on Miramonte Avenue near Hill Avenue, where more than 300 people had scattered from the gathering and multiple gunshots had been fired.
The wounded received initial aid at the scene before being transported to area hospitals, the sheriff's office said. Detectives investigating the case determined that one of the firearms used was a handgun and assessed the shooting to be the work of a single individual.
Sheriff's officials said the party had been promoted on social media and was held without a permit. No arrests had been announced and no further details were immediately available.
