Woman killed after truck overturns on Baghdad highway

BAGHDAD, Iraq — A woman was killed on Wednesday after a cargo truck overturned onto the Mahmudiya highway in Baghdad, the city's Civil Defense Directorate said. The truck driver swerved to avoid hitting the woman and a child crossing the road, lost control and tipped over with its load. The woman, trapped beneath the heavy cargo, died from her injuries, the directorate said. The accompanying child was taken to hospital with minor injuries and is receiving treatment. Civil Defense teams responded to the emergency call, secured the area and coordinated with other agencies to manage traffic flow. Technical work to remove the overturned truck and clear the site was ongoing, according to the directorate.
