BAGHDAD, Iraq — Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani met on Tuesday with representatives of associate and postgraduate degree holders employed at Iraq’s Oil Ministry to hear their demands regarding the academic equivalence of their qualifications. The meeting, held in Baghdad, included members of parliament Rabi Abdul-Jalil al-Musawi and Hura Aziz al-Musawi from the parliamentary Oil and Gas Commission. The representatives said some of their diplomas had not been formally recognized even though they had previously received approvals under Iraq’s Law No. 20 of 2020 on the equivalence of Arab and foreign academic qualifications. They told the prime minister that despite meeting the same conditions and continuing follow-up with the relevant bodies, their files had not reached a definitive resolution. Al-Sudani said he would track the issue and work through the Oil Ministry to pursue a fair solution, according to the statement from his office. No further details on a timeline or specific measures were immediately available.
