Apple is laying off more than 200 employees from its Siri and Vision Pro development units, according to a Bloomberg report. About 100 workers are being removed from the Vision Pro team and another 100 from the Siri software engineering group.
The company said the moves are part of a restructuring aimed at improving the user experience and reorganizing parts of the business. Apple said the changes reflect the need for new talent and a broader reshuffle of the Siri team as it develops an AI-enabled version of the voice assistant and revamps its underlying technical infrastructure.
On the Vision Pro side, Apple said priorities are being adjusted based on how consumers are using the device, with resources being shifted to other new products. Production of immersive video, one of the headset's flagship content formats, has required coordination across multiple teams and outside contractors, with individual 3D videos costing several million dollars.
Demand for the Vision Pro has remained limited, leaving Apple with high production costs for its immersive content. The layoffs are the latest sign that the company is reassessing its investment in the headset and in the next generation of its voice assistant.
