US weighs strike on Iranian energy facilities, Israeli media report

U.S. President Donald Trump is weighing an order to attack Iranian energy facilities, Israeli media reported, citing what they described as heightened readiness in Israel for a possible large-scale U.S. operation conducted without Israeli participation. Israel's Channel 12 said the United States is closer than ever to restarting a war with Iran, attributing the assessment to an unnamed Israeli official. The Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that the Israeli Air Force has reinforced its air defense systems. The White House told Israel's Channel 13 that Iran "will pay a heavy price" until it returns to the negotiating table. Former Iranian negotiator and political adviser Mohammad Marandi warned that any attack targeting Iran's civilian infrastructure would draw a response covering critical infrastructure in Israel, the Gulf states and possibly Jordan. His comments followed remarks by Iranian armed forces spokesman Brigadier General Ebrahim Koushkaki, who said any strike on Iranian infrastructure would be met with attacks on all infrastructure across the region. The U.S. State Department has urged American citizens in the Middle East to prepare for possible airspace closures and travel disruptions, warning that Iran could target U.S. interests or citizens.
