DUBAI, United Arab Emirates โ The UAE Public Prosecution has launched an investigation into the publication and dissemination of a news report containing false information about explosions heard in central Dubai, Attorney General Hamad Saif Al Shamsi said. Al Shamsi stated that the journalist involved has been questioned and those responsible for preparing, approving and publishing the report have been summoned to give statements.
The investigation will examine whether legal and professional standards on verifying the accuracy of news were followed, according to the attorney general. Al Shamsi added that the retraction of the report and an apology already issued would not prevent the prosecution from completing its inquiry or pursuing legal action.
The Public Prosecution said necessary legal steps will be taken once the investigation concludes. It reiterated the importance of adhering to accuracy standards in media work.
