Two people were killed in Baghdad’s Gazaliye district after a dispute over an electricity cable escalated into a gunfight, underscoring the lethal risks of armed confrontations in the capital’s west. The clash broke out between a generator owner and five other people and ended with both sides firing pistols at each other.
Security sources said the verbal argument quickly escalated into armed violence. The generator owner and one person from the other side died at the scene.
Security forces were dispatched to the area after the incident and secured the scene. They detained the other people involved in the dispute and opened a broad investigation.
The bodies were transferred to the forensic medicine institution, while the suspects in custody will be handed over to the judiciary after legal procedures are completed.
