Baghdad Ordered to Cut Spending and Raise Revenue in Development Push

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih Zeydi instructed Baghdad Mayor Ammar Musa Kazım to take steps to reduce the city’s expenses and increase its revenues, as the government pushes for more sustainable urban development in the capital. The directive came during a meeting in which officials reviewed services and projects in Baghdad, including completed and ongoing infrastructure works and the obstacles facing them. Zeydi called for the rapid completion of projects, higher service quality and stronger municipal performance, underscoring the need to accelerate delivery for residents. He also said Baghdad requires a stricter fiscal policy, stressing that savings and higher revenue should support the city’s sustainable development goals.
