Two ballistic missiles intercepted near Erbil, Iraq security source says

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Two ballistic missiles were intercepted in the air on Thursday evening near Erbil, according to an Iraqi security source. The source said the missiles were fired toward the headquarters of the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK), an Iranian Kurdish opposition group, in the Chmashk area near Dareshikan, east of Erbil. The defense system destroyed the projectiles before they reached their target, the source said. No casualties or material damage were reported. The incident comes amid intermittent cross-border strikes between Iran and Iranian Kurdish opposition groups based in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
