A medical team delivered two babies in field units set up in tents and temporary gathering areas in parts of Indonesia affected by a major earthquake, after local health centers were knocked out of service by structural damage. The births were recorded in footage later shared on international and social media platforms.
Indonesian health officials said both mothers and their newborns were in stable condition and credited the safe deliveries to a rapid response by field teams. Health facilities in the affected area have been unable to operate normally because of damage and high patient loads, the officials added, with medical care for displaced residents continuing to be provided by mobile units.
Officials said the deliveries were completed despite difficult environmental and logistical conditions in the disaster zone. No further details on the families or the medical staff involved were immediately available.
