BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Iraq's Military Intelligence Directorate said Monday that intelligence-led sting operations in Nineveh and Salahaddin provinces resulted in the capture of two suspects wanted under Article 1/4 of the Counter-Terrorism Law.
The directorate said the operations were carried out under the direction of its head, Lt. Gen. Hassan Jawad al-Silawi. Intelligence and security units attached to the 8th Mechanized Division and the 14th Infantry Division conducted the operations in the two provinces separately, it said, using what it described as precise ambushes based on sensitive intelligence.
According to the statement, the targeted individuals were among remaining militant elements and were on the wanted list of judicial authorities. The directorate added that the two suspects were handed over to the relevant authorities to complete legal proceedings.
The Military Intelligence Directorate did not provide further details on the identities of those detained or the specific locations of the operations.
