U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said she will resign after her husband was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer, ending her tenure effective 30 June 2026. She conveyed the decision during a meeting with President Trump in the Oval Office. In her formal resignation letter, Gabbard said she would leave office on 30 June 2026. Trump said he understood the decision, saying Gabbard had done an extraordinary job in the post and wanted to be with her husband. Gabbard said she had made unprecedented progress on transparency and integrity within the intelligence community. Her deputy, Aaron Lukas, will serve as acting director.
