WASHINGTON, United States — WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump said on Monday that the United States would retaliate against Iran for an attack on American forces, describing Iran's leadership as being in "complete chaos" and accusing Tehran of relying on disinformation. Trump called Iran "an officially collapsed and dead state" and pledged a response to the strike. Iran's Revolutionary Guards said earlier on Monday that they had launched an attack on US bases in Jordan, striking infrastructure and positions used to deploy enemy warplanes at the King Hussein and Al-Azraq air bases. A US official told Fox News that the attack caused no significant damage and that all incoming missiles were intercepted. The official said Iran fired ballistic missiles at the US base in Jordan in retaliation for American operations in the Strait of Hormuz. Separately, a US source said American forces had struck Iranian military positions aimed at preventing the laying of naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz. No further details were immediately available on either operation.
