Truck owners protest weight fines in Baghdad’s Nehravan district

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Owners of cargo trucks protested in Baghdad’s Nehravan district on Sunday over weight fines and neglected roads. Dozens of truck owners joined the demonstration. Protesters said one fine notice exceeded 11 million dinars. They said the penalties were being issued on a single ticket. One protester said weighing stations had been leased to influential figures but were not measuring loads accurately. The same person said the fine per ton had exceeded 500,000 dinars.
