Baghdad government steps up efforts to recover public funds, curb corruption

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Government efforts to recover public property and combat corruption were put forward in Baghdad, according to academic Ali al-Jubouri, who said the newly formed High Council for Integrity, Oversight and Public Property Recovery would strengthen coordination between institutions. Al-Jubouri said recovering public money is one of the most important files in the current period and would restore the state’s financial rights. He added that the government also needs to reinforce audit mechanisms and provide greater legal and administrative support. The statement said the measures are intended to increase transparency and accountability in public institutions.
