MOSUL, Iraq โ Three sisters fell into the Tigris River on Wednesday when a section of riverbank collapsed in the Nimrud subdistrict southeast of Mosul, a Nineveh Province police source said.
The sisters were walking along the river when the bank suddenly gave way, plunging all three into the water and into a strong current, the source added. River police responded immediately, recovering the body of one sister, born in 2004, from the water. A second sister was pulled out unconscious and transferred to a hospital for treatment.
Divers and search teams were continuing operations downstream to locate the body of the third sister, who remained missing, according to the source. No further details were immediately available.
