BEIRUT, Lebanon โ€” A Syrian parliament member overseeing the implementation of an integration agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said the agreement has reached its final stages. Mustafa Abdi, a member of the presidential committee tasked with monitoring the deal, said in comments that significant progress has been made over the past five months, with remaining steps expected to be announced soon. Abdi said four military brigades have joined the Syrian army and thousands of young men have been enrolled in internal security forces after completing security assessments. He added that the two sides exchanged more than 1,000 prisoners, and that state institutions have taken over the administration of prisons as well as health, endowments, postal, agricultural and water departments in former SDF-controlled areas. According to Abdi, the Allouk water station supplying Hasakah has resumed operations, and oil wells and border crossings have been handed over to the state. He said families displaced to Afrin and Raqqa have returned to their areas, while the repatriation of displaced residents in Ras al-Ayn continues. Abdi said the leaders of the SDF and the Autonomous Administration will formally dissolve both bodies in the near future and announce the decision publicly. He added that the first session of the new Syrian parliament was held in a constructive atmosphere and outlined priorities including service improvements, transitional justice, national reconstruction and new regulations banning the glorification of the former regime.
