Suspect arrested in honor killing case in Erbil

ERBIL, Iraq — A suspect in a murder reported Friday morning in the Erbil neighborhood of Badawe has been taken into custody, the Erbil Provincial Police Directorate said. Police were dispatched to the scene after the killing was reported, and an investigation was opened, the directorate said. The initial probe found that the primary suspect had fled the city toward Duhok, according to the directorate. Tracking teams coordinated with the Duhok Provincial Police Directorate and apprehended the suspect in a short time, it added. Early findings indicated the killing was motivated by honor-related reasons, the Erbil police said. An investigation file has been opened against the suspect and the required legal procedures have been initiated, according to the directorate.
