Iran-linked hackers carried out a coordinated cyberattack on the operating systems of more than 30 community water networks in Minnesota, according to a US report. Minnesota IT Services said the intrusion took place on Sunday and Monday and affected water utilities across the state. The state health department said it had not received any requests to change how cities use drinking water. The New York Times, citing US and state officials and sources familiar with the investigation, reported that the style of the attack and the absence of a ransom demand led investigators to suspect an Iran-linked group. Officials said the assessment could change as evidence is gathered. The FBI said it was aware of reports of targeting in the water and wastewater sector and was working with government agencies to protect critical infrastructure. The bureau said collaboration against multiple cyber threats was underway and that the investigation was continuing.
