BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” Six suicides were recorded in Baghdad over a 24-hour period, with four of the cases reported on Thursday, according to a security source. The source said a man born in 2006 in the southwestern Shu'ala neighborhood hanged himself in his room using a cloth, citing mental health issues linked to epilepsy. In the western Abu Ghraib district, a man shot himself at home after his mental health deteriorated, while in the eastern Hamidiyah area, a woman who had separated from her husband attempted to burn herself with kerosene at her aunt's house and was hospitalized with severe burns. In the southeastern Zafaraniyah neighborhood, a man fatally shot himself at home, and an investigation has been opened into the circumstances. Two further suicides were recorded on Wednesday, according to the source: a security guard assigned to protect Abu Ghraib Prison, and a student in the Mawaqi'in area of the Kemaliyah district who had failed preparatory exams. The security source did not provide further details. No official statement from authorities was immediately available.
