Brigadier General Usama Said Hassan Appointed Commander of Iraq Special Forces

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali ez-Zeydi has appointed Brigadier General Usama Said Hassan as the new commander of the Special Forces, according to security sources in Baghdad. Hassan succeeds Major General Muhammad Qasim al-Fahd, who was recently appointed as the commander of the Federal Police forces. The appointment is part of a broader series of military and security personnel changes conducted by the Commander-in-Chief. The Special Forces are responsible for high-security duties, including the protection of the Green Zone in Baghdad, sovereign institutions, and government headquarters, as well as providing security for the movement of high-ranking officials. This transition coincides with the restructuring of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, which is now managed by former Interior Minister Lieutenant General Abdul Amir al-Shammari.
