BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Six suicides and suicide attempts were recorded across Baghdad within a 24-hour period, according to a security source. The cases were reported in four separate locations in the capital.
A man born in 2006 was found hanged by a cloth from the ceiling of his room in the al-Shula area, the source said, adding that initial information indicated he had a history of epilepsy and psychological instability. In Abu Ghraib district, another man died by shooting himself with a hunting rifle at home, with the source citing poor mental health as the cause.
In the Hamidiya area in eastern Baghdad, a woman attempted to burn herself using kerosene at her aunt's house following her divorce and was hospitalized with severe burns, the source said. In Zafraniya, a man also died by shooting himself with a hunting rifle at home, and an investigation has been opened into the incident.
The source noted that among the six cases, one involved a member of the security forces and another involved a student. No further details were immediately available.
