Authorities in Shatra district of Dhi Qar have launched a wide-ranging operation against offices accused of loan-sharking, locally known as “fayiz.” District commissioner Haydar Galib said a number of office owners were detained and dozens of bank cards seized during the crackdown.
Galib said the campaign is aimed at people who exploit citizens’ needs and impose high interest rates. He said the effort against these practices is continuing.
Shatra was described as the first district in Dhi Qar province to launch an official operation against such activity. Security sources said the procedures are continuing in coordination with the relevant security and judicial authorities.
