Russia: The World Is Closer Than Ever to a Global Catastrophe

Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasili Nebenzia, said the world is closer than ever to a comprehensive catastrophe. He made the remark today during a session of the United Nations Security Council, where he said the danger is now much more immediate. Nebenzia argued that disregard for the United Nations Charter has reached its peak, despite what he described as its fundamental importance. He said the charter’s principles and purposes were being sidelined at a moment when they should be guiding international conduct. He also accused Western elites of using crude force to impose their political and economic interests in order to preserve global dominance. His comments came during Security Council discussions on compliance with the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter.
