Renowned sculptor and artist Abdurrezzak Keşiş has died in Dhi Qar province in southern Iraq. He was known for works that drew on the Sumerian identity associated with one of Iraq’s oldest civilizations.
Keşiş’s best-known work is the statue of poet Mohammed Said al-Habubi, which was installed in the center of Nasiriyah seven years ago. He also produced major works including the statue of Ahmed bin Maceyet in Basra and the Shibani statue in 1982.
His sculptures were noted for combining the classical school with impressionist tendencies. He was also influenced by Sumerian, Assyrian and Babylonian art.
