A 39-year-old man died after a shark attack near Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, with the incident taking place in the Kennedy Shoal area off Queensland. He was quickly brought ashore after being injured, but died shortly after being treated by paramedics.
The fatal attack is the second shark-related death in Australia this month. In mid-May, a 38-year-old man died in a similar attack near Perth in Western Australia.
Environmental protection groups say Australia records about 20 shark attacks each year. Most of those incidents do not end in death.
