Farmer killed, shepherd wounded during chase of suspected thief in southeast Kirkuk

KIRKUK, Iraq — A farmer was killed and a shepherd seriously wounded during a chase of a suspected thief in the Laylan district, southeast of Kirkuk, security sources said. The suspect attempted to burglarize a house in the area and opened fire indiscriminately while trying to flee after being surrounded by local residents, the sources added. The farmer died at the scene, while the injured shepherd was transferred to hospital for treatment. The suspect managed to escape toward agricultural land adjacent to the site of the incident. Following the incident, security forces established an urgent investigation committee and launched a wide-scale search and pursuit operation to identify and apprehend the suspect. The committee is working to initiate legal proceedings related to the case. Security units reported that search activities are continuing in the surrounding farmland and nearby residential areas.
