New York Mayor Zahran Mamdani announced an agreement that will allow city residents to buy World Cup match tickets for $50, in a move aimed at widening access to the tournament for working people. The deal is designed to prevent scalping and resale by placing tickets directly in fansโ hands.
Under the arrangement, 1,000 tickets will be set aside for five group-stage matches and two knockout-round matches. All of the games will be played at MetLife Stadium.
Fans will also receive free round-trip transportation to and from the matches. City residents will be entered into a special lottery system for the tickets.
Applications will be capped at 50,000 per day. Mamdani said the initiative is intended especially to make access to the major event easier for the working class.
