BAGHDAD, Iraq โ€” A new seven-member coalition has been formed in the Maysan Provincial Council, according to local sources, with the stated aim of reviving a no-confidence motion against Governor Mihend al-Atabi. The bloc is made up of two groups of three and four members and was shaped under the patronage of Badr Organization Secretary-General Hadi al-Amiri and Asaib Ahl al-Haq Secretary-General Qays al-Khazali. The coalition said it seeks to distance itself from traditional alliances and ad hoc interest calculations, positioning itself around the al-Atabi file. The new alliance is expected to be formally announced to the public on Tuesday. Council sessions on the no-confidence motion against al-Atabi failed to convene three consecutive times through mid-April, the sources said. The coalition's stated objective is to revive the file and push the chamber to hold the long-delayed session.
