Seven-member alliance in Maysan moves to revisit interrogation of Governor al-Attabi

MAYSAN, Iraq — A seven-member alliance in the Maysan Provincial Council is preparing to revive the interrogation file of Governor Mihned al-Attabi, according to sources familiar with the matter. The new bloc was formed under the auspices of Badr Organization Secretary-General Hadi al-Amiri and Asaib Ahl al-Haq Secretary-General Qais al-Khazali and is expected to be officially announced on Tuesday. The alliance consists of two blocs with three and four members. Its stated aim is to coordinate positions within the council and restructure the balance of power independently of traditional alliances. Previous attempts to hold an interrogation session were unsuccessful, and the council failed to convene a third session by the middle of April. Legal obstacles and political disagreements had prevented the file from advancing. The alliance’s formal announcement is expected to be followed by efforts to bring the interrogation of Governor al-Attabi back to the council’s agenda.
