Netanyahu says Iran will top agenda in Washington meeting with Trump

WASHINGTON, United States — JERUSALEM — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that Iran will be the top item on his agenda when he meets U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington. Speaking before his departure, Netanyahu said all topics would be discussed, but the Iran file would take priority. The visit will be Netanyahu's eighth to Washington since Trump returned to the White House and his first since a meeting in February. Israel did not take part in a two-week U.S. air operation against Iran earlier this month, during which Tehran targeted U.S. bases. Trump ordered the strikes halted, and Iran said it had suspended its attacks as long as Washington maintained engagement. Netanyahu acknowledged in recent weeks that differences remained with Trump on regional issues after a leaked phone call between the two leaders in June. On Sunday, Israel approved the deployment of an international force as part of Trump's plan to end the war in Gaza. The prime minister heads into the Washington meeting with his polling numbers slipping ahead of elections scheduled for October 27.
