Najaf police arrest murder suspect in Kufa

NAJAF, Iraq — Police in Najaf province have arrested a suspect wanted on murder charges in the city of Kufa, the Najaf Police Directorate announced. The operation was carried out under the direction of the Interior Ministry's Inspector General for Police Affairs and on the orders of Najaf Police Commander Major General Mohammed Jaber Ziyab al-Fatlawi, the directorate said. Officers from the Kufa district's assistance unit detained the suspect under Article 406 of the Iraqi Penal Code, which covers murder offenses, following intelligence gathering and investigative work. The suspect was transferred to another province to complete legal procedures, according to the statement. No further details on the case were immediately available.
