BAGHDAD, Iraq โ Separate security incidents were reported Friday across Iraq's Dhi Qar, Duhok and Kirkuk provinces, including a murder by drowning, a body recovered from a lake and the rescue of four youths from a river.
In Dhi Qar, a man in his twenties killed his nephew by holding him underwater while they were swimming in a river in the southern district of Suq al-Shuyukh, according to a security source. The source said the killing stemmed from a dispute over a bicycle.
Further north, fishermen discovered the body of a young man from Sinjar district in the village of Kamuna on Lake Mosul, south of Duhok. The victim had left home a day earlier and had been reported missing by his family, prompting a search that ended when his body was caught in a fishing net. No cause of death was disclosed.
Separately, four youths nearly drowned at the Altinkopru tourist resort north of Kirkuk. River Rescue teams responded to a distress call and pulled them from the water, administering first aid on site before transferring some of them to hospital for medical evaluation.
